(AP) Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka lost the first set in 66 minutes Saturday, then rallied for a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2 victory over No 26 Alize Cornet to advance to the round of 16 at the US Open.

The entire match took 2 hours, 40 minutes on a steamy afternoon in Armstrong Stadium.

Azarenka's next match is against No 13 Ana Ivanovic, who also needed three sets in her win over American Christina McHale.

Azarenka made the final at the US Open last year before falling to Serena Williams in three sets. She opened the Grand Slam season by winning her second straight title at the Australian Open.
