UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) — A small, private plane has crashed while trying to land at an airport operated by Penn State University.

University spokeswoman Monica Jones says the plane crashed about 8:20 a.m. Thursday. She couldn’t immediately say how many people were aboard or whether anyone was injured or killed.

The plane crashed in Benner Township near University Park Airport.

A small, experimental aircraft crash-landed at the same airport eight days ago. The pilot was not injured but some flights had to be diverted while the airport was closed following the crash.

The airport was closed indefinitely while crews responded to Thursday’s crash and flights were again being diverted. Jones couldn’t immediately say how many or which flights might be affected.
