The Marywood University Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present “Crimes of the Heart” by Beth Henley Nov. 1-2 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., in the Sette La Verghetta Center for Performing Arts. The play examines the plight of three young Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions.

The production is guest-directed by David Zarko.

It will be staged three quarter in the round on the stage, which means the audience sits on the stage, surrounding the acting area on three sides. The goal of this staging is to create an intimate space out of Marywood’s large theatre, and captivate the audience, giving them the feeling they are in the play.

In addition, the show is being prepared for evaluation by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF). Professional respondents from KC/ACTF will give the students the opportunity to have their work critiqued in order to improve their skills. If the production is selected to perform at the January Region II festival in West Chester,it will receive recognition for theatre excellence on a regional and national level. Last year’s production of Proof was selected for performance and several actors were nominated for awards.

The cast includes: Miranda Micciche, as “Babe”; Jess Lochie, as “Lenny”; Gina Solebello, as “Meg”; Travis Murray, as “Doc”; Amanda Merrill, as “Chick” and Nick Grevera, as “Barnette”.

The artistic staff includes: David Zarko, director; Judith Snyder, production manager and scenic designer; Mary Anne Swords-Greene, costume designer; Robert Lozada, lighting designer and Patrick Toomey, sound designer.

The management staff includes: Dr. Paulette Merchel, producer; Victoria Moshy, stage manager; Jade Litaker and Amanda Hirschler, assistant stage managers; and Rebecca Darling, properties manager.
