MOOSIC – Runs were not hard to come by for the Toledo Mud Hens in Saturday night’s 11-7 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at PN C Field. The Mud Hens hitters racked up 14 hits, including three home runs.

The Mud Hens offense didn’t take long to get hot. The visitors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Scott Sizemore led off the game with a home run to right field to give the Mud Hens a lead they would never relinquish.

Will Rhymes then drew a walk and Ryan Strieby roped a double to left field to give Toledo base runners on second and third base with nobody out. Jeff Larish popped out to Eduardo Nunez at shortstop, but Jeff Frazier flew out to deep right field and Rhymes scored from third.

Brent Dlugach then drew a walk and Ben Guez brought them both home with a triple to the right-center field gap and the Mud Hen lead was 4-0.

The Mud Hens extended their advantage to 5-0 in the second. Rhymes scored from third on a single to right off the bat of Strieby.

The Toledo offense continued to produce runs in the third. Frazier led off the inning with a line-drive single to center field. Dlugach reached on an error and Guez then doubled in Frazier to give the Mud Hens a 6-0 lead.

Dlugach scored on a ground ball to second base off the bat of Robinson Diaz and Sizemore singled in Guez to extend the Toledo lead to 8-0 after the visitors’ third inning.

The Yankee offense awoke in the bottom of the third. Reid Gorecki led off with a single and Greg Golson then hit a two-run homer to left field to cut the Toledo lead to 8-2.

The Yankees offense rallied for four runs in the home fourth. Eduardo Nunez drew a leadoff walk and then Chad Tracy crushed a home run to right field. Jesus Montero popped out to first base, and Jorge Vazquez followed with a line single to left field. Eric Bruntlett then ripped a two-run homer over the center-field fence and the Yankees were down just 8-6 after four innings.

The Mud Hens answered right back in the top of the fifth. With Kei Igawa on the mound for the Yankees, Guez and Casper Wells hit back-to-back homers to left field and extended the Toledo lead to 10-6.

The Yankees couldn’t take advantage of a golden opportunity in the fifth. Montero came up with the bases loaded and one out in the inning, but he grounded into a double play to end the threat.

The Mud Hens extended their lead to 11-6 in the sixth. Frazier hit a line drive that just made it over the wall in left field.

Bruntlett blasted a homer to lead off the ninth. It was his second homer of the game and he now has seven for the season. But, the Yankees were unable to score anymore in their final at-bats.

Zach McAllister, who left the game down 5-0 after two innings, took the pitching loss.

Brendan Wise (4-2) picked up the win for the Mud Hens.

The Yankees fell to 54-39 on the season and the Mud Hens improved to 44-48. The teams will play the finale of their four-game series at PNC Field today at 1:05 p.m.. David Phelps (1-1, 2.30) will take the mound for the Yankees, and L.J. Gagnier (3-3, 3.55) will take the hill for the Mud Hens.

Yankee notes: Pitcher Boone Logan was recalled by New York Saturday night … Catcher P.J. Pilittere was activated from the disabled list.
