PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a man drowned in a northeast Philadelphia creek after jumping in to try to save his dog.

Police said the 68-year-old man was walking his dog along Pennypack Creek in the Bustleton section Monday when the animal either jumped or fell into the water.

Police said the man then went into the water to try to save the dog but was swept away by the current.

The marine unit was called in to help recover the body. His name wasn’t immediately released. Police said they later found the dog near the man’s car.
