How to rejuvenate Lake Nuangola

Lake Nuangola is a glacial lake on the southern slope of Penobscot
MountainThe present area of the lake is one-half its original area, and the
present volume is one-quarter of the original.
Thus, three-quarters of the material in the original basin is composed of
the the dead remains of plants and animals which lived in an~d around the lake
through a dozen millennia. That organic material is composed of very fine
partices and includes nutrients.

Lake Nuangola is truly a senescent lake.

One way to rejuvenate Lake Nuangola would be to remove as much of the
accumulated material as possible.

Such a shallow lake as Lake Nuangola, which is not much more than 20 feet
deep at most, has sufficient circulation to keep 90 percent of the lake’s
water well oxygenated.

The installation of bubblers may recirculate the organic nutrients now
stored in the bottom and thus create an oxygen demand which may be
deleterious.

The installation of a sewage system ~would be the better choice.
