The Second Presbyterian Church, Parsonage Street, Pittston, Worship Committee willbe arranging Lenten services every Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The First United Methodist Church of West Pittston will hold a home made pizza sale on Friday, March 6. Pizzas can be ordered baked or unbaked, with or without onions. Also with sweet red pepper topping for an additional $1.50.

Feast of St. Joseph
The annual Novena & Feast of Saint Joseph will be held March 10 – 19 at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary Chapel, Route 315, Laflin, with Masses daily at 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Preaching this year’s Novena will be Father Jacob Matthew, OFM, a Franciscan priest of the Holy Land, residing in Washington, D.C. and currently serving as Vocation Director. Confessions will precede each Mass during the Novena and prayers to the Patron of the Universal Church will be offered at the conclusion of Mass.
The Feast of St. Joseph will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, with Masses celebrated at 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Medals of St. Joseph will be blessed and distributed to the faithful after all Masses. The public is welcome to participate in this annual novena and feast honoring the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Guardian of the Redeemer. For more information, contact Rev. Paul A. Night at the Races
A Night at the Races, sponsored by the family and friends of 1st Lt. Jeffrey F. DePrimo will be held on Saturday, March 21, at the Seton Catholic Auditorium, church street entrance, Pittston. All proceeds go to 1st Lt. Jeffrey F. Deprimo Memoriam Fund.. The fund was established by Jeff’s family and friends through the Luzerne Foundation , a non profit corporation. The fund will go to support Jeff’s many interests in life and will ensure that Jeff’s spirit will remain alive and vibrant among us. Admission is $5.00, adults only. Admission is free with purchase of a horse, you may purchase as many horses as you like at $10.00 each. If your horse wins, you receive $50.00, Admission price includes food and beverages. Holy Hour
The monthly Holy Hour for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Oblates of Saint Joseph Seminary Chapel, Route 315, Laflin. The hour of prayer includes exposition & benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the rosary, vocation reflection and intercessory prayers. A Spring Craft and Gift Fair will be held on March 2, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at St. Maria Goretti Banquet Hall, Laflin Road, Laflin

Blue Army Vigil
The next monthly First Friday Reparation Vigil to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary will be held Friday, March 6 at St. Joseph’s Oblate Seminary in Laflin.
Fr. Paul McDonnell will serve as host for the vigil. Young adults are most welcome. Devotions begin Friday evening at 8 p.m. with recitation of the Luminous
Meditation of the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary will also take place at this time. Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated at 8:55 p.m. followed by benediction, litany, and consecration to the Sacred Heart.
Hunterdon Hills Trip
The Women’s Association of the First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre is sponsoring a bus trip on Monday, June 8 to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse at Hampton, New Jersey. Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross will be celebrated every Friday during Lent at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. This Friday we will be using Mary’s Way of the Cross.
During the season of Lent we will once again have baskets in each of our Churches. All donated food items will be brought to the Pittston Area Food Pantry in the former Seton Catholic building.
Religious Education Classes for students in grades 1 through 6 meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Religious Education Center. All children, grades 1 through 6, registered in public or private school should be attending Religious Education classes.
The next Confirmation class will be held this Sunday, March 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the religious Education Center at St. Mary, Help of Christians. The Confirmation Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary. The Rite of Acceptance for the Confirmation Class will be celebrated on Sunday, March 8, at the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary, Help of Christians Church.
A Parent Meeting for First Communion will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Religious Education Center at St. Mary, Help of Christians. At least one parent should be present for the meeting.
Our Parish Community Choir is reorganizing in preparation for the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation (March 22), Lent and the Easter Triduum. The choir will be meeting on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All members of our parish community are welcome and encouraged to be part of this most important ministry.
Scripture Study concludes Tuesday of this week from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Religious Education Center.
As our parish implementation teams begin their work, as part of the cluster implementation team, to implement the Bishop’s directives, it will be keeping these goals in mind and alert you to how well we are doing in meeting the goals. Our Parish Implementation Teams will meet on Monday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the Religious Education Center at St. Mary, Help of Christians.
On the first Friday of each month Communion is brought to those who are unable to participate in Sunday Mass because of age or health. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated with anyone seriously ill, anticipating a serious operation, or quite elderly. Please notify the parish office of anyone desiring these Sacraments, as well as anyone in the hospital or a nursing home.

All are invited to participate in the inter-parish Lenten Program “Road to Resurrection”, which will begin on Wednesday, March 4 at St. Mary’s Avoca. Father David Betts will be the homilist. Mass will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The Stations of the Cross will be prayed every Friday during Lent at 7:00 p.m in the church. Confessions will be heard following the Stations of the Cross (around 7:40 p.m.).
In case of school closing or early dismissal due to severe weather, the CCD program will be closed for that night. If there is a late start to school classes, the CCD classes will be held as scheduled.
Classes will be held on March 2, 9, 16 and 30. The CCD students will participate in the 8:30 a.m. Mass on March 15. First Grades will be assisting Father. Students are to meet at 8:10 a.m. in the church hall. The Safety Touch Program for Grades 4, 5 and 6 will take place in the school following the 8:30 a.m. mass until 10:30 a.m. On March 23, Second Graders will celebrate their First Penance.

St. Mary’s Church will host the “Road to Resurrection” Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the church, 715 Hawthorne St. The Rev. David Betts, assistant pastor of Sacred Heart/St. Stanislaus Church, Wilkes-Barre, and chaplain of the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, will be the homilist for the Mass. Following the service, refreshments will be served in St. Mary’s School auditorium.
