Playwrights sought for contest

The Cuyahoga Community College Division of Creative Arts will hold a play competition for playwrights who are residents of Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana. Original full-length plays of any genre except musicals and adaptations are eligible. Plays must be at least one hour in length.

The deadline for submission is Sept. 1. A committee will select the top three plays and winners will be notified in February 2011. The first-place award is $1,000, second-place is $500 and third-place is $250. The awards ceremony will take place in Cleveland in March 2011 and will include a play reading by Tri-C theater students and a reception. Playwrights will be invited to attend and travel and accommodations will be provided.

The entry fee is $25 to cover administrative costs. Plays will not be returned. Submissions should include a cover page with playwright contact information and name of the piece. Scripts, with a check made out to Cuyahoga Community College, should be sent to:
