NANTICOKE – A city teenager, charged with carrying an assault rifle on
school property, will face the charges in county court, a district justice
ruled Thursday.

Zachary Hallas, 18, of West Ridge Street, is accused of walking onto the
Greater Nanticoke Area High School campus with an unloaded assault weapon on
Jan. 14.
Hallas is charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
Additional charges of burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition,
receiving stolen property and two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit
burglary charges were filed because police said Hallas stole the weapon from
the East Ridge Street apartment of Darren Boysha on Jan. 13.

District Justice Donald Whittaker of Nanticoke forwarded all charges to the
Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas during a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Police said Correy Lemberger, a resident in the same apartment building as
Boysha, is accused of breaking into the apartment and taking the rifle.

According to arrest papers:

Hallas admitted participating in the burglary and said Lemberger owed him
$150 for drugs, and Lemberger would give him the rifle instead of money.

In a written statement, Hallas told police he served as lookout while
Lemberger used a knife to break into Boysha’s apartment and steal the rifle.

Unrelated criminal mischief and public drunkenness charges were also filed
against Hallas. Police said Hallas threw a brick though the store front window
of Peoples Market on South Market Street.

Whittaker reduced Hallas’ original bail from $75,000 cash bail to $100,000
regular bail, which allows Hallas to post a percentage.
