Two homeowners tell board their houses have been hit, causing damage.

PLAINS TWP. – Shirley Christian and Carmen Chiumento, who both live across the street from the John Mosko Field in the Hilldale section, told the commissioners Thursday that they want a higher fence built around the baseball field.
Chiumento said his garage door has multiple dents in it from the balls and said a team from Coughlin High School is responsible for hitting a ball through his bay window this week.
Christian complained that the balls have also been hitting her house, adding that players walk across her property and trample on her flowers.
They brought the problem to the board’s attention last year, they said, but nothing was done about it.
Commissioner Joseph Spagnuolo said the board looked into the cost of netting and a taller fence, but that there wasn’t enough money in last year’s budget. He said he would contact the principal of Coughlin to seek reimbursement for Chiumento’s window replacement. Commissioner Brigid O’Connor told Christian to call the police the next time someone walks across her property.
In another matter, Luzerne County Rails to Trails representative Charles Urban asked the commissioners for their financial support for phase two of the project, which will pass through township property.
The recreational trail, which runs parallel with abandoned rail beds and follows the Susquehanna River, will start in Pittston and end at the Luzerne County Courthouse, Urban said.
Chairman Ronald Filippini told Urban that the board would consider his request and get back to him.
In other business, the board:
• Unanimously passed a smoking and tobacco ordinance that would prohibit smoking and the use of any tobacco products in township vehicles and buildings.
• Voted 4-1 with Joseph Hoinski abstaining to award contracts to Bob Turner Construction in the amount of $3,400 for the replacement and repair of the municipal park office roof, and for the replacement of the John Mosko Field press box roof for $7,800.
• Awarded a contract to Ed Koulik in the amount of $2,600 for a ductless air-conditioner in the administrative office of the municipal building.
