NORTH ABINGTON TWP.- At the North Abington Township board meeting, Attorney Richard Williams from the law firm Hourigan, Kluger and Quinn and Anthony Handley, engineer of Millennium Systems, made a presentation about the benefits of constructing a new Verizon Wireless Communications facility on property located off Cranston Avenue.
The said the reasons why they feel this is necessary included routes 407 and 435 receiving bad cell phone connection. Handley exhibited a map showing the existing Verizon Wireless sites such as Clarks Summit, Dalton and Nicholson and the proposed site of Lackawanna State Park. The new facility will have a 250 -foot tower with a four -foot high lightning rod. There have been mixed thoughts from the residents on the potential new facility in North Abington Township.
The board suggested that Verizon Wireless build two or three small towers instead of one large one. North Abington resident Margaret Hall said, “We are carrying the weight of a light burden.” A work session was to be held October 13 , in which the board will decide whether or not they will allow the new facility from Verizon Wireless.
