Faculty at three Wilkes-Barre Area School District high schools recently participated in a training session to learn how to teach using the EverFi method. EverFi is a three-dimensional gaming and education company specializing in teaching financial literacy to young adults. The new program, part of the social studies curriculum at Wilkes-Barre Area School District, will use 3D gaming methodology and graphics to teach students about banking, spending, stocks and bonds, consumer fraud and other financial literacy-related topics. EverFi representatives Jose Miramant and Jessica Barlett presented an in-service training session for social studies teachers from Coughlin, GAR and Meyers high schools. Coordinated by Andrew Kuhl, district secondary curriculum director, the training introduced teachers to the programs and provided an opportunity to review the techniques they will use in teaching the lessons. Some of the participants, from left, first row: Ron Krause, Coughlin; Erik O’Day, Meyers, and Ellen Thoma, social studies department coordinator, Meyers. Second row: Kuhl; Miramant; Jeff Andrejko, GAR; Barlett; Leah Cochran, Wilkes-Barre Tech Center; and Susan Mason, GAR.
