Rally for Reilly will be held at the V-Spot, 906 Providence Road, Scranton, Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 8 p.m. The event’s purpose is to raise funds and awareness for Reilly Itterly, 12, of Clarks Summit, who will undergo spinal fusion surgery to treat severe scoliosis.

Itterly’s surgery is scheduled for Sept. 16, at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Tickets to Rally for Reilly cost $5 at the door, and include live entertainment featuring five bands. A portion of the bar proceeds from the event will also be donated to the cause. In addition, numerous baskets and gift certificates will be raffled and T-shirts and bracelets sold.

Scoliosis is a disorder in which there is a sideways curve of the spine or backbone. Doctors use surgery to correct the curve or stop it from getting worse when the person is still growing and the curve is more than 45 degrees. Surgery often involves fusing together two or more bones in the spine. The doctor may also put in a metal rod or other device. If scoliosis goes untreated it can lead to physical deformity, severe pain and breathing problems.
