WILKES-BARRE — A Plymouth woman allegedly stabbed her boyfriend during a domestic fight on South Sherman Street early Tuesday.

Natema Yashey Green, 31, of Nottingham Street, told city police she “slugged” Joseph Shotwell but refused to say if she used a weapon, according to arrest papers.

Police say Green claimed she was arguing with Shotwell, 45, because she wanted to break up with him. During the argument at 23 S. Sherman St., Green said Shotwell became upset and attempted to grab her, causing her to run away and call police.

Police found Shotwell at the Turkey Hill store on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard with a stab wound to the abdomen. He was transported to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Before being transported to the hospital, Shotwell allegedly told police Green stabbed him.

Green told police she is four months pregnant and had blurry vision in her right eye. Police said Green had blood stains on her hands but had no visible injuries.

Green was evaluated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township and released into police custody.

Police allege they found blood spatter on a carpet and walls inside a bedroom of 23 S. Sherman St.

Shotwell’s brother, Byron Shotwell, told police he heard Green and Joseph Shotwell physically fighting and heard his brother yell, “Get off me,” arrest papers state.

Byron Shotwell later told police he was not aware his brother had been injured.

Green was arraigned by District Judge Thomas Malloy in Luzerne County Central Court on two counts of aggravated assault and a single count of simple assault. She was jailed for lack of $100,000 bail.

There appeared to be blood stains on Green’s pants as she was arraigned.

Stabbing suspect Natema Green, of Plymouth, is escorted from Luzerne County Central Court on Tuesday morning.
