WILKES-BARRE — A 33-year-old city woman reported she was raped 9:45 p.m.
Wednesday by a man she knows after an argument at her Midland Court residence.
   
The woman told police the man, the identity of whom police declined to
release Thursday, argued with her upon arrival at her residence and he forced
her to engage in sexual intercourse with him.
    The woman was treated at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and released. An
investigation was continuing Thursday.
   
It is the policy of The Times Leader not to publish the names of victims of
alleged sexual abuse.
   
Motorist assaulted in Wilkes-Barre
   
WILKES-BARRE — A Hunlock Creek man told police he was assaulted and robbed
in his car in South Wilkes-Barre early Thursday morning.
   
George Gale, of RR 1, Hunlock Creek, Hunlock Township said he was driving
on Carey Avenue when he saw a man standing on the street and stopped to avoid
hitting him.
   
The suspect reached into the car through the sunroof, opened the passenger
side door and entered the car, police said.
   
The suspect told Gale to drive to the area of South River and Sullivan
streets, where another man approached the car and struck Gale. The two
suspects then assaulted Gale, stole about $100 cash and fled, police said.
   
Gale was treated at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre and released.
   
Man faces DUI charge,
   
oustanding warrant
   
WILKES-BARRE — Police arrested a city man Thursday morning on charges of
drunken driving and on an outstanding warrant for the hit-and-run of an
unattended vehicle.
   
Police said 41-year-old Scott Leeds of Wood Street was stopped at 2:15 a.m.
after an officer observed him driving erratically on South Main Street near
Wood Street.
   
The officer said Leeds showed signs of being intoxicated and was given
field sobriety tests, which he failed.
   
Leeds was placed under arrest and charged with drunken driving, police
said.
   
A records check showed Leeds had an outstanding warrant for hit-and-run of
an unattended vehicle. Police did not provide the date of the hit-and-run. The
warrant was served and Leeds was arraigned and remanded to the Luzerne County
Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 bail.
