October 19, 1998
    John J. Pavlik Sr., of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at Mercy Hospital,
Wilkes-Barre, after suffering a heart seizure at his home.
   
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Anna Kandrac
Pavlik.
   
He was educated in the city schools.
   
He was employed for 35 years for American Auto Stores Warehouse,
Wilkes-Barre, and later for Wyoming Valley Distributing of Wilkes-Barre. He
was last employed as a crossing guard for Wilkes-Barre Area School District.
   
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and its Holy Name Society,
Wilkes-Barre.
   
He was active with the senior citizens with the Bureau of the Aging of
Luzerne and Wyoming counties.
   
He and his wife, the former Josephine Mital, celebrated their 43rd wedding
anniversary on January 22.
   
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leo and Carl; sisters, Cecila
Monka and Elizabeth Palenchar.
   
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his son, John, Jr., New York City;
daughters, Joanne Kutney, West Palm Beach, Fla.; Jacqueline Orkisz,
Wilkes-Barre; brother, Joseph, Del Ray, Fla.; sisters, Ann Pavlik and
Josephine Ondrick, both of Wilkes-Barre; Irene Zelinka, Hollywood, Fla.; five
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Corcoran Funeral Home,
20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
in St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre.
   
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas.
