Penn State Athletics
    WOLF-TV to broadcast Illinois/PSU football game
   
Penn State’s Big Ten contest with Illinois on Oct. 31 will be televised by
   
WOLF-TV. The game starts at 12:10 p.m. in Beaver StadiumThe ninth-ranked
Lions are 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten after Saturday’s 31-13 win over
Purdue. The Lions are idle this Saturday.
   
Previously announced were broadcasts of Penn State’s games at Michigan
(Nov. 7, noon) and vs. Michigan State (Nov. 28, 1 p.m.) on ABC.
   
Defensive end Courtney Brown named player of the week
   
For the second time in his career, junior defensive end Courtney Brown has
been selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, following his
performance in the game against Purdue.
   
Brown had a season-high seven tackles (six solo), including three sacks and
one pass break-up against the Boilermakers. The Lions are on course to break
the school’s season record for sacks (47 in 1979).
   
PSU wrestling announces roster changes
   
Penn State wrestling coach Troy Sunderland announced Monday that senior
Eddie Jayne is leaving the team.
   
Jayne, a 133-pounder who competed in 18 dual meets in his Nittany Lion
career, will continue his education at Penn State and is expected to graduate
this fall.
   
Sunderland also officially announced the departures of sophomore Shad
Benton and junior Matt Gual from the team.
   
Basketball
   
YMCA Adult League announces results
   
The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA Adult League held two games Monday. In the
first game, Sallie Mae defeated the Beer Bellies 58-47. Doug French and Damon
Lisnow were the high scorers for the Beer Bellies. For Sallie Mae, Paul Ozel
and Dan Birosik led the scoring.
   
In the second game, Pizza Bella beat the YMCA 74-50.

Wilkes-Barre man scores ace at Hollenback
   
Jim Maloney of Wilkes-Barre recorded his first career hole in one Sunday at
Hollenback Golf Course. He is a teacher at Bishop Hoban High School.
   
Maloney used his 9-iron to sink the 150-yard No. 4 hole. Witnesses were
Mike Cirba, Matt Choman Sr. and Matt Choman Jr.

Scranton field hockey player earns accolade
   
University of Scranton field hockey keeper Jody Patterson was named the
Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18.
   
Patterson shut out Hamilton College 2-0 on four saves and held unbeaten
Division II power Bloomsburg University to one goal while making 11 saves. The
victory over Hamilton marked her eighth shutout of the season, one shy of
tying the school record.
