Dominick’s 20 School St., Plains Township. 829-9612 and 829-9658. A staple
in the Hudson section for many years. Crowds have been known to wait outside
of the door. Portions can be immense. No pretensions. Lobster crab bisque, the
Angus filet, cole slaw as a side dish and terrific pizza. (Reviewed March

Super China Buffet Route 309, Wilkes-Barre Township. 821-8982. Extensive
buffet includes dim sum and unusual pizza to a sushi area. Favorites include
teriyaki chicken, the seafood delight and snow crab legs. Dessert includes two
flavors of Jell-O. Tireless staff. (Reviewed Feb. 26)

Nina’s 356 Chestnut St., Dunmore. 342-4040. Another good- if quirky-
Italian restaurant. Lots of garlic in everything. Good thing they don’t serve
dessert. Try the veal calabriase. (Reviewed Feb. 19)

Dusseldwarfs Center Street, Pittston 883-0203. German food…in Pittston!
Limited menu, superb quality. Schnitzel and bratwurst were tops. Accompanying
potato salad and red cabbage were authentic. (Reviewed Feb. 12)

Applebee’s 253 Route 309, Wilkes-Barre Township. 822-3100. A chain
restaurant with lots of fans, despite a certain routine quality. Bets bets:
potato skins appetizer, the Oriental chicken salad, a rib platter and a
N’awlins skillet entree. (Reviewed Feb. 5)

Cross Valley Restaurant 235 S. River St., Plains Township. 822-9151. High
grades for a pork loin special and the spaghetti with meatballs. Hearty
homemade soups and luscious desserts. Clean, bright, affordable and suited for
families. (Reviewed Jan. 29)

The Fireside Inn Route 115, Buck Township. 472-3230. Buffet dining that is
a mixed experience. A lot of food for not a large price. But quality suffers.
Mundane soups. One dessert per customer. Carved meats were excellent.
(Reviewed Jan. 22)

Taverna del Lupo at Celestino’s 140 N. Main St., Dupont. 655-9230. A
premier restaurant under new management. Lapses on some details. But the
antipasto Mediterranean is a must, homemade pasta is terrifc as are veal
Marsala and a 7-ounce lamb chop. (Reviewed Jan. 15)

Yester-Days Route 309, Trucksville. 696-3573. Servers are helpful, soups
are superb, entrees enormous. And magnificent homemade desserts. Good luck on
reservations. (Reviewed Dec. 25)

High Elevations Route 940, Carbon County. 443-8899. A dining jewel just a
half-hour drive from downtown Wilkes-Barre. Signature spinach balls,
~distinctive soups, extensive entree list and delectable desserts. (Reviewed
