WILKES-BARRE — Police said Jody Ford shoved his 7-year-old daughter and head butted his wife Saturday night after their new puppy spread garbage and defecated on the living room floor of their home on Hazle Avenue.
Ford was charged and held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
According to a written statement given by Rebecca Abel, Ford’s wife:
Abel, Ford and four small children went to party at Ford’s cousin’s house where he was drinking heavily.
They returned home and found garbage on the floor from the puppy. Ford “flipped out” and called Abel inappropriate names.
As she was cleaning up the mess with their 7-year-old daughter, Ford spit on Abel. When she stood up he head-butted her, causing her to stagger backwards.
As Ford passed the girl he pushed her in the chest, forcing her onto a couch. Several minutes later, he shoved her again.
Seeing that, Abel threw a child’s chair at Ford to protect the girl. Ford then pushed Abel and went upstairs. He returned with a closed pocket knife and threatened to slice Abel’s throat. Abel knocked the knife out of his hand.
Ford chased Abel, calling her names, spitting at her and shoving her.
Police said there was a faded red mark on the girl, but no visible marks on Abel.
