WILKES-BARRE — Police said Fikri Aptikiliasimov, 64, faces drugs charges after a large quantity of packaged heroin and currency were found at his residence late Wednesday night during a search.

The police Anti-Crime Unit searched 21 Bradford St. at approximately 11:30 p.m.

According to police:

A small safe containing the heroin was located in Aptiliasimov’s upstairs bedroom. Also seized was a black duffel bag with a large sum of U.S. currency believed to be the proceeds of heroin sales.

Aptiliasimov had the safe’s key on him.

WILKES-BARRE — An alleged sardine thief apparently waited too long to make her move and was caught in the act.

City police say an astute store manager at Schiel’s Family Market, 30 Hanover St., observed a woman, later identified as Kimberly Royce, loitering in aisle No. 2 for a long time Thursday afternoon.

The manager then saw Royce allegedly put 28 packages of sardines in her purse and attempt to flee the business, police said.

Store personnel were able to stop Royce from leaving and escorted her to the store’s loss prevention office, police said.

Royce was then taken into custody and transported to Wilkes-Barre Police Headquarters where she was cited with retail theft, processed and released, police said.

WILKES-BARRE — An employee at Pete’s Place, 159 Blackman St., told police that a man came into the pizza shop at about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday and handed him a note demanding money.

The employee said he crumbled the note, threw it at the suspect and ordered him to leave the business. The suspect then picked up the note and fled. He was last seen running north on Brown Street.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s with a thin build, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing a white knit cap, a white hooded sweatshirt with a tan sweatshirt over it, dark-colored pants, pink gloves, and white sneakers with green shoelaces and bright green grass stains on them.

The suspect also had the hood pulled taught around his face and was wearing gray rimmed sunglasses.

An investigation continues.

WILKES-BARRE — A man from the Mountain Top area told police he was depositing money at First Liberty Bank & Trust, 64 N. Franklin St., for his employer at about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, when a male appeared from the street and demanded all the money.

Police said the victim told them he wrestled the suspect to the ground, but the suspect then went into the victim’s car, stole his key and ran from the scene. The suspect was last seen heading north on Franklin Street towards King’s College.

The suspect was described as an obese black male, about 6 feet tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a full black ski-mask and light-colored blue jeans.

An investigation continues.
