WEST PITTSTON — A borough man was arrested Wednesday after, police allege, he inappropriately touched and made lewd comments to a minor.
A 16-year-old girl reported to borough police that Jamie K. Gillyard, 52, of Luzerne Ave., made a sexual comment to her on Oct. 4 while she was babysitting a friend’s child at an apartment in the same building that Gillyard resides.
Police said the next day, while she was sitting outside, Gillyard kept slapping her lightly, as if fooling around with her, and continued after being told to stop. When the girl stood up, Gillyard walked behind her and grabbed her, according to court papers.
The girl went inside to put the baby down for a nap, came back out outside later to talk with a friend, and Gillyard approached her from behind, put his hands around her neck and squeezed, police said. He then pushed her away, almost causing her to fall to the ground, court papers state.
The girl’s mother told police her daughter called her, “hysterically crying,” and told her what happened, police said.
Gillyard was charged with indecent assault and harassment. He was arraigned before District Judge David Barilla in Swoyersville and jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston.
