GAR’s Carin Smurl was the league’s top player for the second year in a row.
Statistics aside, the senior hitter was the heart and soul of a Grenadier team
that went 14-1 and won its third consecutive Class AA WVC title.
Hazleton Area’s Dana Shanebrook and Nanticoke Area’s Debbie Krupinski
guided their teams to a battle for a district playoff berth. Shanebrook took
over this season and turned the Cougars around from a 4-11 season to 11-4.
Krupinski coached Nanticoke from 6-9 to 11-4.
