WILKES-BARRE- The estate of a city man is suing the Geisinger Medical Group
and a local physician, claiming they failed to properly inform the man of his
risk of suffering a heart attack.

Helen A. Berezich, administrator to the estate of David K. Berezich, filed
the suit Wednesday against the medical group and Dr. Carl M. Charnetski.
According to the complaint filed in Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas:

David Berezich became a patient of the medical group on Feb. 21, 1989.

On Aug. 8, 1997, Berezich was examined by Charnetski. Berezich told
Charnetski that he had chest pains, pain in the right side and other cardiac
risk factors.

Charnetski never warned Berezich that he might have heart disease. Based on
Charnetski’s recommendations, Berezich did not take the proper steps to obtain
suitable tests or treatment.

David Berezich died as a result of a heart attack while he was driving on
Aug. 14, 1997.
