The Wilkes-Barre Police Department is accepting applications for police officer positions until Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.
Applicants must complete a physical agility test is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Oct. 26, and pass a written civil service test scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 16.

broadcast Oct. 21
WVIA will presents the broadcast premiere of the all-new special presentation “Chiaroscuro Jazz Conservancy Sessions: Berwick Area High School Stage Band” on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. on WVIA-TV.
The program follows jazz pianist and Chiaroscuro Records artist Bill Mays and four other professional musicians as they conduct a day-long jazz education workshop at WVIA with the Berwick Area High School stage band. Along with Mays, clinicians Marko Marcinko, drums; Eddie Severn, trumpet; Tom Hamilton, saxophone; and Josh Davis, bass, coach the student musicians, and then perform with them in a special final performance for a live audience in the Sordoni High Definition Theater at the WVIA Studios.

Misericordia to host
Halloween in Halls
Misericordia University will host a Halloween in the Halls program 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27. Youngsters are invited trick-or-treat at McHale, Alumnae, McGowan and Gildea residence halls on the Upper Campus and take part in themed activities at MacDowell Hall.
The program is free and sponsored by the Department of Residence Life.
Center to visit
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center, which provides services to veterans and their families, is scheduled to visit the Laurel Mall 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday weather permitting. It will remain in place until all veterans in attendance are served. The visit schedule is subject to change.
The DVA sponsors the MVC program to reach veterans in underserved areas. Several MVCs operate in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.
Trained personnel will be on hand to provide services including individual, marital, family and bereavement counseling; medical referrals; assistance in applying for VA benefits; employment guidance and referrals; alcohol and drug assessments; and information and referrals to community resources.

North Branch sets
walk by moonlight
Staff and members of the North Branch Land Trust are planning a moonlit walk through historic and conserved properties in Bear Creek at 6 p.m. Oct. 18, which is considered a Hunter’s Moon. The event is for members only.
North Branch planners suggest hikers bring a sturdy pair of hiking shoes, an appropriate jacket and a flashlight in case of cloud cover.
The hikers will walk for about an hour to end at a campfire for wine, cider, cheese and marshmallows.
Space is limited, so registration is required and can be made at www.nblt.org. There is a rain date of Oct. 19. Email info@nblt with questions or call the office at 570-696-5545. Directions to the property will be given upon registration.
