KINGSTON — For the past seven years, Lori Ann Gallagher has been getting her hair colored and styled at Pure Lavi Salon in Kingston. As a matter of fact, she was one of the first clients to see Catina Boyle open her salon at its present location seven years ago.

“I always know that when I walk out of here, I’m going to look fabulous,” the Sugar Notch woman said as she got her nails manicured.

Boyle, in turn, said that her clients and stylists are like family to her and she attributes being voted “Best Hair Salon” by readers of the Times Leader to them. “We treat each other like family here and our clients are like family members too,” she said.

Staff members are Erica Potsko, Nicole Taylor, Jessica Cerreta, Betty Lynn Kempinski and Sue Draus.

The salon’s niche is its coloring services, said Boyle, whose stylists are all trained in Paul Mitchell brand coloring techniques. She said fashion hues, like purple, pink, orchid, magenta and turquoise, are popular now. One popular request are the mermaid coloring techniques in which sea colors like blues and greens and turquoise are blended together using foils.

Deciding factors in coloring one’s hair depend upon age, skin tone, eye color, condition and texture of the hair and one’s occupation, Boyle said. “A person can go lighter or darker by adding highlights or covering her grey,” she said.

She also encourages women with platinum blonde locks prone to dark roots to show off their roots with a contrasting look rather than covering them up.

The salon owner said that longer locks will be making a comeback for spring and summer after the bob haircut trend for winter.

“Length is really popular now,” Boyle said. “A low ponytail is king of the hairstyles You can tie it loosely at the nap of the neck with a colored elastic hairband or sleeked and glossy for an evening look.”
