WOONSOCKET, R.I. —A $35,000 grant was awarded to Edward R. Leahy Jr. Center Clinic for the Uninsured in Scranton by CVS Health Foundation’s grant program.

CVS Health Foundation, a private foundation by CVS Health Corporation, awarded 55 grants, totaling $5 million, to clinics nationwide. The multi-year program is designed to increase health care access for uninsured residents.

The clinics were members of National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, School-Based Health Alliance or National Association of Community Health Centers.

Scranton University’s Edward R. Leahy Jr. Center Clinic for the Uninsured was the only clinic in the state to receive a grant.

Stan Zygmunt, Scranton University spokesperson, said the clinic will use funds to implement an electronic medical record program and increase counseling and physical therapy programs.

“Through our partnership with leading community health organizations, we’ve been able to make meaningful progress toward improving care coordination, better managing chronic conditions and increasing access to care,” Eileen Howard Boone, president of the CVS Health Foundation said in a written press release. “We are excited to announce new grant recipients whose dedicated work will help us continue to support unique approaches and models needed to improve outcomes and lower health care costs.”
