In honor of Black History month, South Abington Elementary School students were able witness a historical reminder on Friday, Feb. 15. Actors from Encore Performing Arts, Inc., from New York, presented at the school a reenactment of Rosa Parks’ act of civil disobedience that occurred December 1, 1955 when Rosa Louise Parks refused to surrender her seat to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus. Her action triggered a wave of protest throughout the United States. The students at South Abington on Friday were able to see the strength and the conviction that inspired the nation. Jennifer Wynn, President South Abington Elementary PTA, said of the event “I am very excited about the program and its potential impact on our children.”
