Police to get pay raises

Borough Council adopted a 1996 budget of $631,495 that includes a 6 percent

The tax will remain at 27 mills. One mill is a $1 tax for each $1,000 of
assessed property value.

Next year’s budget, approved at Wednesday night’s meeting, is $13,495 more
than this year’s budget of $618,000.

The budget includes a 6 percent pay increase for the four full-time police
officers. The police chief will earn $24,752; police captain, $23,966;
sergeant, $23,292; and patrolman, $22,592.

The eight part-time police officers will each receive an hourly increase of
25 cents, raising their hourly rate to $7.25.

The five full-time street department workers will receive a 25-cent hourly
increase, bringing the salary of three workers to $16,120, and two workers to
$14,248.

The annual garbage fee will remain the same.

In other business, the council:

Hired three contractors to plow and cinder streets at a cost of $40 an
hour. The contractors are York Avenue Auto, Bejeski Contractor and Mike and
Joe Sekelski, all of Duryea. Each contractor will be designated a section of
the borough.

Joseph Ryzner, Arlene Moss and Robert Girman, whose terms expire Dec. 31,
1997. Wayne Bellas was appointed to replace Ray Dziewit. His term will expire
Dec. 31, 1997.
