WILKES-BARRE — Residents now can go online to nominate charities for $10,000 in free advertising through a program sponsored by Civitas Media LLC, owners of The Times Leader.
The giveaway, called MyOwn Community Service Partner Campaign, helped kick off the launch of MyOwnWilkesBarre.com, a new website launched by The Times Leader. There, residents can become registered members of the MyOwnWilkesBarre.com community and fill out a nomination form.
“We’re proud to be part of the Wilkes-Barre community, and this is one of the ways we want to show our gratitude,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Civitas Media. “The $10,000 in free advertising will help a local charity deliver its message online or in print, however it chooses. The new website will bolster our already robust print and online products.”
Local residents will select the winning charity, said Walt Lafferty, general manager of The Times Leader. That will happen in a two-fold process.
He said that charitable organizations will have until Sunday, Oct. 27, to submit their nomination form, which can be found online at MyOwnWilkesBarre.com. At the conclusion of the nomination period, residents will vote for their favorite charities. The top five vote-getters then will advance to a second round of voting to determine the winners. Articles will be published in the newspaper and on timesleader.com announcing the top five nominees, as well as the winner.
Voting will take place on MyOwnWilkesBarre.com from Nov. 3 through Nov. 22. There will be one vote per person.
This new website allows readers, schools, community organizations, local governments and others to post their favorite photographs, such as vacation or sports photos; share upcoming events, such as scout meetings and bake sales; and even write their own blog.
Any local charity in the area with an IRS charitable designation is eligible for the $10,000 of free advertising.
