WILKES-BARRE — More than 1,000 customers were without power late this morning after a strong thunderstorm rolled through Luzerne County.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, but several buildings may have been struck by lightning, and there were trees down in many areas.

PPL Electric was reporting 1,002 customers were out, with an estimated repair time of 2 p.m., according to their outage page.

According to the National Weather Service, additional showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly between 3 and 5 p.m, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
