St. Jude School received the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Award for the large school with the highest percentage of first-place awards for the third year in a row at the 54th Regional PJAS competition held at Wilkes University. The competition is designed to stimulate and promote interest in science through the development of research investigations. Students present their findings to a panel of judges. Those who earn a first-place award are eligible to advance to the state competition in May at Penn State University, State College. Emily Thomas received a perfect score and the Junior High Excellence Award in biology. Ethan Hoda earned a perfect score and the Junior High Excellence Award in chemistry. Taylor Josefowicz received a perfect score for her project in chemistry. First-place award winners are: Grade 8: Dominic Capaci, Patrick Curley, Grace Dacey, Nicholas Ganter, Joshua Gronka, Matthew Hayden, Ethan Hoda, Taylor Josefowicz, Sean Murphy, Alyson Rymar, Valerie Soto, Madison Stoltz, George Strish, Emily Thomas, McKaylia Ward and Bryce Zapusek. Grade 7: Jared Bozinko, Abby Lapinski, Anthony Limongelli, Caitlyn McIngvale, Lauren Poharski and Dalton Preston. Second-place award winners: Grade 8: Devyn Boich, Matthew DiGangi, Austin Kane and Katie Wills. Grade 7: Molly Dugan, Mary Grace Eckert and Ryan Williams.
