The Wilkes University School of Education and Rock Solid Academy, Shavertown, recently formed a partnership that allows Wilkes education majors to gain teaching experience by working with the academy’s students. Activities during the fall semester included a visit by Barbara J. Welch’s third- and fourth-grade students to Associate Professor of Education Robert Gardner’s elementary social studies class to learn about the pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving and a visit by the Wilkes students to Rock Solid Academy to help the elementary students polish essays they wrote about the pilgrims. Participants, from left, first row, are Isaac Hooke, Kirsten Baker, McKayla Williams, McKenzie George, Zaire Shakelton, Alyse Miller, Jordan Gallagher, Cali Petts, Kate Walters and Dean Walsh, Rock Solid Academy students. Second row: Jeanine Manta, Leah Doknovitch, Kayla Creed, Alexis Reed and Sydney Shaffer, Wilkes students; Welch; and Mark DiPippa, head of school, Rock Solid Academy. Third row: Gardner and Sarah Benczkowski, Theresa Kloeker and Vincent Genoble, Wilkes students.
