The Northwest Area School District/Wilkes University Partnership sponsored a fifth-grade poetry contest at Hunlock Creek Intermediate School on March 18. The topic of the poems was ‘Fun in Winter.’ The winners of the poetry contest were Kayla Featherman, first place; Alaina Carle, second place; and Jacob Piestrak, third place. Robert S. Gardner, associate professor of education at Wilkes University and director of the Rural Education Partnership, and Holly Cragle, fifth-grade teacher at Hunlock Creek Intermediate School, coordinated the contest. The first round of judging was done by fifth-grade teachers at Hunlock Creek Intermediate School and the final judging was done by the members of Gardner’s ED 345 class, Assessment in Education.
