The Catholic Choral Society of the Diocese of Scranton, under the direction of Ann Manganiello of Exeter, opened its season last Sunday, October 24, with a Fall Concert at Holy Rosary Church in Duryea. The Society consists of 50 singers and a piano accompanist, Jean Shields.

Manganiello said the Society’s president, Dr. Thomas Rittenhouse, is the driving force behind keeping the Society’s tradition strong.

Over the years the Society has performed at the Cadet Chapel at West Point, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., and 100th Annual Immergrun Choral Festival in Rockenburg, Germany.

Every baseball season the Society sings the National Anthem at a Yankee game and they do the same at Pens games in Wilkes-Barre.

The group often performs with other choirs. For example, the Junior Choir of Holy Rosary directed by David Tighe and Candice Lee last Sunday.

The Society rehearses every Tuesday night from Labor Day through May at the IHM Center at Marywood and new members are always welcome. Call the Society President Rittenhouse at 570-587-2753.

The Catholic Choral Society will host four area choral groups at its ninth Generations Concert at St. Peter’s Cathedral on Sunday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m.
