Mary Bove, Wapwallopen, a Misericordia University communications graduate, earned a first-place award for her sport photo “Women’s Volleyball Victory’’ in the 2015 Student Keystone Press Awards Division III category for four-year colleges and universities with enrollment under 10,000. Bove, the daughter of Melanie Bove, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, magna cum laude, during the December 2014 commencement ceremony. She took the picture as a member of the Highlander student newspaper staff while covering a Misericordia University women’s volleyball game. The New York Times also selected two of her photos in 2012 for a slide show on its Education Life web page and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association selected one of her photographs for the cover of its 2012 calendar. Bove is employed as general assignment photojournalist at the Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise and as a sports photojournalist for the Wyoming Valley Sports Shot.

Caleb G. Schirmer, Sugarloaf, a technology management major at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was chosen as the February Student of the Month. Schirmer, who earned an associate’s degree in landscape/horticulture technology with a landscape emphasis in 2014, is president of the Off-Campus Housing Organization and secretary of Students Making a Contribution. He is also a member of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), a Student Government Association senator from the School of Business and Hospitality and an English tutor in Penn College’s Writing Center. He supports a number of additional student organizations, including the Horticulture Club and Penn College Benefiting THON.
