GAR Memorial High School Class of 1953 recently celebrated its 60th anniversary reunion at the East Mountain Inn. Cornelius (Corny) Salvaterra presided as the master of ceremonies for the evening. Beverly Collins led the group in the singing of the Alma Mater and the class song. Guest speaker was Tony Brooks, former executive director of the Luzerne County Historical Society, who presented a slide presentation and talk, ‘250 Years of Wilkes-Barre Architecture,’ with a history of GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Memorial High School, which was named in honor of the Civil War veterans for their service to the nation. The next class reunion is planned for the summer of 2015.
