HAZLETON — A 3-month old girl was injured during a fight among adults on North Bennett Court Sunday night.

Police investigating the fight, which involved a man sustaining a stab wound at about 9:35 p.m., learned the infant allegedly had been struck in the head by Maria Vasquez, 39, of Carson Street, according to the criminal complaint.

Police allege Vasquez intended to strike another person but struck the infant, who was being held by a juvenile, the complaint says.

The infant was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton and flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest for injuries to her forehead and ear, police said.

Police said Vasquez was standing next to Sergio Guzman, who had a laceration on his chest.

Guzman told police another man pulled out a knife and stabbed him during an argument, the complaint says.

Police described Guzman’s alleged attacker as a Hispanic man with a mustache and shaved head.

Vasquez was arraigned Monday by District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township on charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $20,000 bail.
