Helen Irene Burian, 84, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, in the Hospice Care of the V.N.A. Inpatient Unit of the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre, following a very short, unexpected illness.

Helen was born in Plains Township on August 9, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Peter and Irene Chirinko. She was a lifelong resident and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1943. She was employed as a presser for Leslie Fay and Parsons Fashions until her retirement. She also worked part-time cleaning St. Joseph Church, Hudson.

Helen was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, and was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, May 3, 1972; a son, Michael, April 19, 1996; and brothers Joseph and John Chirinko.

Surviving are a son, Alfred (Fred), with whom she resided; grandson Matthew, Philadelphia; daughter-in-law Lois J. Burian, Wilkes-Barre; sisters Romaine Kasper, Texas; and Jean Sudnick, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Helen had requested to have a private funeral, which was held on Wednesday from Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. Arrangements were by Yanaitis Funeral Home.
