WILKES-BARRE – A city woman suffered burns to her face and upper body after a man allegedly sprayed lighter fluid on her and set her on fire.
Police said they located a 28-year-old Park Avenue woman at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital at about 1 a.m. Sunday and found that she had suffered burns to her chin, neck, chest and abdomen.
In an interview with police, the woman said a man sprayed her with the fluid and set her on fire after accusing her of being with another man.
Police said the woman refused to given them information on the man’s date of birth, address or other identifying information. She stated she did not want to pursue charges despite repeated attempts by the investigating officer to convince her otherwise, police said.
WILKES-BARRE – City police responded to a report of a possible self-inflicted gunshot in the 100 block of Westminster Street on Sunday night. A 911 supervisor said the report was received at 9:36 p.m.
A man was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Police at the scene declined comment.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
• Police said that on Sunday they used a taser to subdue a man wanted on escape charges.
Police located Christopher L. Nice at 85 Madison St. after they were dispatched there at 2:40 a.m. for a report of a male causing a disturbance.
Police said they recognized Nice as being wanted on an arrest warrant after he allegedly failed to return to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Police said Nice was continually uncooperative and an officer used a taser to stun him after Nice repeatedly refused to obey commands.
• Anthony Jackson, of 33 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, was charged with criminal mischief after he allegedly used a vehicle to damage a residence at 189 Hazle Ave. at about 8 a.m. Sunday, police said.
• Lee Veronick told police his vehicle was damaged by gunfire at Holland and Loomis streets at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
• Kareem Walston, 32, and Julio Morcelo, 37, both of New Jersey; and Derek Leonard, 40, of Edison Street, Wilkes-Barre, were arrested and charged with trespassing after an incident at 27 Academy St. at 11:24 a.m. Saturday, police said.
• Peter Broody, 30, of Pringle, was cited with public drunkenness after an incident at 24 E. Northampton St. at 11:11 p.m. Saturday, police said.
• Jason Gaydos, 30, of Plains Township, was cited with harassment after allegedly attempting to strike someone with a bat at 158 George Ave. at 11:54 a.m. Saturday, police said.
• Adan Basulto, 45, of Bowman St., of Wilkes-Barre, was cited with disorderly conduct after allegedly using loud and obscene language in a public place at North Pennsylvania and Conyngham avenues at 11:33 a.m. Saturday, police said.
• Lauren Peters, 20, of South Franklin Street, will be cited with harassment and criminal trespass after Sherri Gordan, of 533 S. River St., told police at 7:53 p.m. Saturday that Peters slapped her and refused to leave her residence, police said.
• Ronald Romiski, 33, of Sycamore Street, Wilkes-Barre, was arrested and charged with simple assault and harassment after his 12-year-old daughter told police at 12:12 p.m. Sunday that Romiski struck her with a glass bottle and chased her with a knife, police said.
HANOVER TWP. – Police are investigating a recent burglary that occurred on Oxford Street.
Police said Frank Coyle, of Oxford Street, reported a Polaroid 40-inch flat-screen TV and a Sony PlayStation 3 were stolen from his apartment.
