HANOVER TWP.: Preston Hose Company 3 will host its annual children’s Christmas party from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 12 at the house hose. Preston children ages infant to 10 years old are invited.

Registrations will be accepted from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the hose house.

MOUNTAIN TOP: The Bucks Bombers will host a “Best Chili in Town” contest to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Slocum Fire Department

There will be baked goods, face-painting, a Lia Sophia jewelry and basket raffles.

NOXEN: The Noxen Volunteer Fire Company will serve a breakfast buffet from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at the fire hall, Stull Road.

The meal costs $7 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12 years old.

PLAINS TWP.: The Rotary Club of Plains will sponsor its annual Christmas party for children at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Andy’s Diner, River Street. The Wyoming Valley Children’s Association has mailed invitations to its clients who reside in the township. The invitation is extended to all children of Plains Township.

There will be live music, a visit from Ronald McDonald, dinner and a gift from Santa. To attend, contact Gino Bartolli at 822-1684.

SHAVERTOWN: Uniformed officers of the Back Mountain Police Association will conduct its second annual “Warm Coats for Kids” collection from 1-3 p.m. Saturday in the Back Mountain Shopping Center parking lot near Thomas Family Market. Gently-used and new children’s coats as well as hats and gloves will be accepted.

WEST SIDE: The Knights of Columbus Assumpta Council of Luzerne will conduct a food collection throughout the West Side community Saturday morning. Non-perishable food will be accepted as part of the annual Care and Share program to assist those in need on Thanksgiving Day.

Holiday-related groceries should be placed outside of front doors. Call 287-2826 if food was not collected by noon to arrange pickup.

WILKES-BARRE: The Wilkes-Barre chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will conduct its election at noon Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill St.

Votes will be accepted for the following officers: Ronald L. Felton, president; Larry Singleton, first vice president; David Barber, second vice president; Toni Mathis, secretary; Nancy Frey, treasurer and Executive Committee members Peggy A. Felton, Clinton Harrison, Yolanda Harrison, and David Walline.

Youth Council officers will also be sworn into office. They are Michaela Cunningham, president; Lydia Parham, first vice president; Ashley Johnson, second vice president; Jasmine Mack, secretary; and Amber Johnson, treasurer.
