Sampling some fine Philly foods at the 2014 Flavors of the Avenue.

A trip to Flavors of the Avenue on East Passyunk Ave. in Philadelphia should be on any foodie’s bucket list.

Dining out for Life, an event that raises money for the fight against AIDS will take place on April 25. Thursday, April 30 marks the 25th anniversary of the event.

Thousands of people attend the annual Avenue of Flavors in South Philly’s East Passyunk. This year’s event is from noon to 4 p.m. on April 26.

After a long winter, it’s time to get out and about. Luckily, Philadelphia has an abundance of excellent festivals lined up this spring. Some even help benefit worth causes.

One of the best festivals, coming up later this month, is the annual Flavors of the Avenue in East Passyunk, one of the coolest neighborhoods in South Philly.

East Passyunk is a charming area filled with dozens of fantastic restaurants, proving that Philly’s food scene isn’t limited to Center City. Every spring, those restaurants come together for an outdoor celebration.

Held under a large tent, visitors can sample dishes from the top chefs and restaurants of the area. Participants include Le Virtu, Laurel and Noord, all top rated restaurants. Food tastings will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. The $45 general admission ticket includes unlimited wine, craft beer, cider and cocktails.

While you need a ticket to access the tent, outside there is a free street festival. Enjoy live music and shop at the April Showers Craft Show, which will take place around the Singing Fountain.

This year for the first time, all the participating restaurants will offer drink specials throughout the weekend. If you post a picture of your drink, tagged with #FlavorsofAve on Twitter, you could win two VIP tickets. Additionally, the tagged picture makes you eligible to win a $25 Uber gift certificate.

All this fun provided by Flavors of the Avenue helps to benefit the public safety program run by the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID). A portion of each ticket will be donated to a local high school.

Another popular event that doubles as a fundraiser for AIDS awarness is Dining out for Life.

April 30 marks the 25th anniversay of the event founded in Philadelphia by ActionAIDS in 1991. The event now takes place around the country, raising millions of dollars to help raise awarness and fight AIDS each year.

On Thursday, April, 25 more than 200 area resturants will donate a third of the cost of your meals to five AIDS service organizations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Deleware.

Some Philadelphia restaurants also invite diners to donate $25 or more to the cause on April 25 in exchange for a 20 percent discount at participating restaurants on Tuesdays for the rest of 2015.

For the first time, many popular food trucks are also participating, so if you’re in the area and looking to grab a quick bite and do somethig good, check out some of the participating trucks.
