SENATE 2016-PENNSYLVANIA

HARRISBURG — Democrat Katie McGinty had barely finished her victory speech celebrating a 10-point Pennsylvania primary win for the nomination to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey before TV attack ads began flying in a general election contest that could tilt political control of the U.S. Senate. Already, four TV ads — three of them are attack ads — have begun airing since Tuesday night in an effort to shape the race leading to the Nov. 8 election. Pennsylvanians should prepare for even more mud-slinging: Tens of millions of dollars are likely to be spent to influence a campaign that is being watched nationally. By Marc Levy. PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Elephants will perform for the last time at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus on Sunday, as the show closes its own chapter on a controversial practice that has entertained audiences since circuses began in America two centuries ago. Six Asian elephants will deliver their final performances in Providence, Rhode Island, and five will perform in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, during several shows on Sunday. EXCHANGE-PENNSYLVANIA ENERGY

STATE COLLEGE — Climate change causes a lot of problems. But it can also create opportunities for job growth and innovation. Calls to move entirely to renewable energy might seem like what our country and our world need, but some people argue it would jeopardize Pennsylvania’s workers and its economy. Penn State professor Tom Richard says Pennsylvania has always been an energy state, and it’s been through energy transitions before — from charcoal to coal and oil to natural gas and renewable energy. Richard said the transition will create winners and losers, and it’s important to make sure people in stressed regions are assisted. Cate Hansberry, Centre Daily Times.

HKN–FACEOFF

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins evened their series with the Washington Capitals at a game apiece, but it came at a price. WASHINGTON — During their back-to-back Stanley Cup final runs in 2008 and 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins knew all about what Brooks Orpik can do. FBN–ON FOOTBALL-DRAFT TRENDS

Figuring out who won or lost in an NFL draft takes years, not hours. Finding trends is a whole lot easier. Some were obvious, such as the love given Ohio State, and the disdain for 2015 bowl teams Tennessee, Duke and North Carolina. The desire to find quarterbacks lasted from the first two picks through No. 223. The search for running backs was virtually an afterthought for three rounds, with only four going in the first 100. By Pro Football Writer Barry Wilner. 850 words.
