PLAINS TWP. — The Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center has been awarded a state education equipment grant of $20,000. It was the only Luzerne County CTC to get part of $1.2 million in competitive grants given to CTCs statewide, according to a state media release Wednesday.

Administrative Director Anthony Guariglia said via email the money is earmarked for two simulators. “One will assist our Law Enforcement Program of study and the second simulator will assist our Diesel Program of study. Basically, these simulators look and feel like being in the vehicle.”

The Doron 450 Law Enforcement simulator mimics an automatic transmission sedan, while the Doron 550 simulates a manual transmission truck.

“These simulators will provide hands on experience for our students to train and prepare how to drive a police interceptor and Light/Medium/Heavy Vehicle/Truck,” Guariglia wrote.
