Nancy J. ‘Ma’ Daniels, 75, a resident of Exeter Township, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, following heart surgery at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Mrs. Daniels was born in Jenkins Township, a daughter of the late John and Dorothy M. Humphrey Carpenter, and was a graduate of West Pittston High School, Class of 1953.

She had been a manager of the Turkey Hill store in West Pittston for some time, and had later been associated with Dr. Robert W. Bishop in his veterinary practice in West Wyoming for many years.

Mrs. Daniels was known as ‘Ma’ to her family and friends and enjoyed raising her family. She liked to spend time in front of her wood burning stove at the end of the day and was much in demand as a babysitter.

She and her husband of more than 52 years, Brainerd William ‘Skip’ Daniels, also spent time in their home in Canada. Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Dymond Hollow United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Daniels; and sons, Staff Sgt. William J. Daniels, U.S. Marine Corps, and Brian P. Daniels.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Linda Daniels, Pittston; granddaughters, Megan Barney, Swoyersville, and Della Bobb, Pittston; and a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Barney, Swoyersville; and sister, Mrs. Janet Calvert, and her husband, Harold, Lewes, Del.

Funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Monday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 211 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. William A. Cottle, pastor of Dymond Hollow United Methodist Church, officiating. Private interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Exeter Township, at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6 p.m. until time of service. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals, or the Irem Legion of Honor, c/o Irem Shrine Center, Box 308, Dallas, PA 18612.
