In recent years both the Osterhout Library in Wilkes-Barre and the Jason Miller Playwrights Project in Scranton have benefited from the proceeds of parties that celebrated a 1920s theme.

If you’re contemplating your own party, here are some ideas based on those earlier events, along with clothing suggestions from Costumes by Barbara in Luzerne:

• Give guests a password that gets them past the door.

• Arrange for a “raid.”

• Put gin in the bathtub.

• If you’re a woman, consider wearing a flapper dress, perhaps with a cloche hat or a headband decorated with a feather.

• If you’re a man, consider a seersucker suit with a straw hat or go for the gangster look.

• Carry a flask.
