BLING RING — This is the 2008 story of how teens living in and around Calabasas, Calif., broke into the homes of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge, Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox to go “shopping.” Their targets were high-end fashion, jewelry, money and any other bling they could find. Everything about this movie rings fake and false. R for drug use, language, sexual content. 90 mins. Zero stars.

EPIC — Derivative as all get out and plainly concocted by a committee, “Epic” this children’s animated film is more entertaining and emotional than it has any right to be. PG for mild action, some scary images and brief rude language. 102 mins. Two and a half stars

FAST & FURIOUS 6 — Regular fans will be delighted with this latest installment, which again ups the ante with the cars, the crazy stunts, the crashes and the fights. Vin Diesel’s Dom, now wealthy and living the good life, is lured back into action by his erstwhile nemesis. PG-13 for intense violence and action and mayhem throughout, some sexuality and language. 130 mins. Two stars

THE INTERNSHIP — There’s an unadulterated joy in the reteaming of those fast-talking “Wedding Crashers” Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, a wholesome novelty in their playing laid-off salesmen forced to do what millions of Americans have had to do in the past six years: reinvent themselves. PG-13 for sexuality, crude humor, partying and language. 118 mins. Three stars

MAN OF STEEL — Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen,” the “Dawn of the Dead” reboot), redeems himself from the wretched steampunk shenanigans of “Sucker Punch” and pulls this Superman story all together. PG-13 for intense sci-fi violence, action and destruction; strong language. 143 mins. Three stars

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY — It has been 12 years since we were introduced to Monstropolis and the city’s power company Monsters, Inc., where scream energy is harnessed from terrified children. That’s where we met the furry blue giant named James P. Sullivan and his wisecracking lime-green cyclops buddy Mike Wazowski. Disney-Pixar’s “Monsters University” brings us back to the time when Sully and Mike were not quite BFFs. G. 110 mins. Three stars

NOW YOU SEE ME — Four professional illusionists are called together by a mysterious leader. Jesse Eisenberg is the cocky sleight-of-hand wizard. Isla Fisher is an escape artist. Woody Harrelson is a wise-cracking hypnotist, and Dave Franco (yes, brother of James) a talented street magician. When the team seemingly robs a Paris bank in real time during a magic show in Las Vegas, it catches the attention of a rough-edged FBI agent. PG-13 for language, action and sexual content. 116 mins. Two and a half stars

THE PURGE — Characters are frequently urged to “release the beast” in this high-concept home-invasion shocker set in a future where one night a year, all crime is legal. 85 mins. R for strong disturbing violence and some language. Two stars

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS — Like fan-boy fiction on a $185 million budget, director J.J. Abrams’ film is reverential, faithful and steeped in “Trek” mythology. It’s also an excessively derivative what-if rehash. PG-13 for intense sci-fi action and violence. 132 mins. Two stars

THIS IS THE END — The world won’t end with just a bang or a whimper but also a truckload of sophomoric humor and Hollywood in-jokes. At least that’s the way Seth Rogen and a bunch of his movie-star buddies see it in this riff on the apocalypse. R for crude and sexual content, brief graphic nudity, strong language, drug use, violence. 107 mins. Three stars

WORLD WAR Z — The first 25 minutes or so of this “Contagion”-meets-“28 Days Later” thriller will leave you breathless. The rest of it serves up novel and often entertaining solutions to the various “zombie problems” this overexposed genre presents. PG-13 for intense frightening zombie sequences, violence and disturbing images. 116 mins. Three stars
