In honor of National Get Outdoors Day on Saturday, Promised Land State Park in Greentown will hold a day of activities.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can visit the tables near the food concession in the day use area and meet park staff along with “Leave No Trace” trainers from Boulder, Colo.
From 1 to 2 p.m. you can take part in an introduction to kayaking and from 2 to 3 p.m. those who have paddled before can embark on the lake. You can bring your own kayak or canoe or use one of the park’s kayaks for $5.
From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be an interpretive hike on Conservation Island that will focus on the principles of Leave No Trace and how they apply to hiking and camping. The hike is especially suited for youth leaders, Scout leaders and older Scouts.
Finally, from 6 to 7 p.m. an introduction to green camping will be hosted by the park naturalist in the park amphitheater. Participants will play games, try out new eco-friendly camping equipment and learn some simple techniques to keep your camp site green.
