Meyers (2-3) at Hanover Area (2-3)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Meyers’ Corry Hanson (10-16, 3rd year); Hanover Area’s Ron Hummer (36-46, 8th year)
Last Meeting: Meyers 34-7 in 2012
All-Time Series: Meyers leads 42-29-3
Quick Fact: After losing four in a row to Hanover Area, Meyers has won the last two meetings.
Scouting Meyers: Meyers enters off a 14-10 loss to Lake-Lehman where it scored a TD and two-point conversion with 33 seconds left. The Mohawks won the field position battle in the first half, yet led just 2-0. Those points came on a football follies fumble that resulted in a safety. QB Matt DeMarco had 85 yards on the ground in the read-option attack, but didn’t score a touchdown for the first time this season. The rest of the attack did very little to excite.
Scouting Hanover Area: Hanover Area pulled off a 20-14 upset of Northwest last Friday. The running game was dormant, but QB Jake Peters came through with 224 yards and three TDs through the air, both career highs for a guy who was supposed to be the backup this year. DB Elido Veras recorded his third interception of the season, and the defense held Northwest’s strong running game to a season-low 120 yards. It didn’t give up a score in the first half.
What To Expect: Meyers “poked the bear” a little bit in last year’s game by scoring with 18 seconds left. It’s doubtful Hanover Area has forgotten. Look for a tougher game than in 2012.
