Northwest (4-1) at Nanticoke (2-3)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Northwest’s Carl Majer (37-24, 6th year); Nanticoke’s Ron Bruza (13-21, 4th year)
Last Meeting: Northwest 45-7 in 2012
All-Time Series: Tied 8-8
Quick Fact: Northwest ran for 309 yards and four TDs in last year’s game.
Scouting Northwest: The offense never got going as Northwest was upset last Friday 20-14 by Hanover Area. QB Logan Womelsdorf threw for a season-high 153 yards and a touchdown. Good for him but not the Rangers, who want to use their big fellas up front to dominate. That didn’t happen as RB Austin Mazonkey finished with a season-low 85 yards and Northwest had a season-low 130 yards on the ground. That number should be higher tonight.
Scouting Nanticoke: Nanticoke used an interception return for a touchdown by Kyle Gavrish and a 3-yard TD run by QB J.T. Levandowski to knock off Wyoming Area 14-7. It was a big win for the program, but the caveat was Wyoming Area is well down from past seasons. The Trojans ran just one play in Wyoming Area territory prior to Gavrish’s pick-6 at 4:52 of the third quarter. The offense managed just 106 yards, but Nanticoke was able to capitalize on Wyoming Area mistakes and played bend-don’t-break defense all night.
What To Expect: Nanticoke must get better offense in order to pull off another win. The Trojans ran just 40 plays to Wyoming Area’s 71. Give the Rangers that many chances and the game will get lopsided.
