7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Stroudsburg’s Jim Miller (4-1, 1st year); Valley West’s Pat Keating (35-15, 5th year)
Last Meeting: Stroudsburg 38-15 in 2012
All-Time Series: Valley West leads 10-1
Quick Fact: Stroudsburg had 486 yards of offense in last year’s game, the most Valley West allowed during the regular season.
Scouting Stroudsburg: The Mountaineers posted their second consecutive shutout last weekend, pasting lowly Allentown Allen 56-0. RB Gerald Douglas had 202 yards and four TDs, and is well on his way to a 1,000-yard season. QB Mike Nikorak adds balance to the offense, with his favorite target 6-foot-2 Joel Ozoemena. Douglas had 89 rushing yards last year against Valley West. Nikorak threw for 180 yards versus the Spartans. All three guys will return next season, making the future bright.
Scouting Valley West: The Spartans defeated Coughlin 56-14 last Friday, but led only 21-14 at halftime. They took advantage of Coughlin fumbles to post 28 third-quarter points, with QB Mike Baur hooking up on TD passes to WR Chris Baranski and TE Alex Barilla. The defense has surrendered 378 and 323 yards in the past two games after three impressive performances. But the level of competition has gone up the past two weeks as well.
What To Expect: Both teams are expected to make the D2/4-11 Class 4A playoffs, but this game could determine who is traveling Week 11. Valley West has played two toughies the last two weeks, while Stroudsburg’s last two opponents are 1-9 combined. Fatigue could be a factor.
